The most versatile Linux distribution.
Debian is one of the hundreds of different
Linux distributions currently available on the market, being the main distribution on which
Ubuntu is based. But unlike most general distributions, this one has been developed for the main purpose of being installed on servers.
It is a
free operating system that is available for
12 different platforms ( i386, AMD64, alpha, SPARC, armel, ARM, PowerPC, HPPA, ia64, MIPS, s390 and m68k), includes more than

Among the
packages that are available with
Debian we will be able to find:
OpenOffice, GIMP, Iceweasel, PostgreSQL,
MySQL, Apache, PHP Samba and
Perl, to name just a few.
Even though it includes
GNOME as the default desktop environment, it is also possible to use other like
